Monday and Tuesday:
The main attraction of these two days was painting the new Farm to School portable. Campers had the opportunity to bring their garden drawings from last week to life. After learning about how to use acrylic paint and how to mix colors, the campers let their creative juices flow. The mural features a peppermint flower, multiple brightly colored birds, and many delicious looking vegetables.
On Tuesday, the campers learned how zucchini bread muffins is made during Culinary Corner. Although many were apprehensive that a bread made with vegetables would be no good, many were pleasantly surprised by the bread (and had more than one muffin at breakfast the next day).
Wednesday:
The campers got to hike around Rockport State Park for this week's field trip. The campers were split into groups based on how difficult of a hike they wanted to take. The groups talked about trail etiquette and local plants, and got in some great physical activity! After lunch, the campers rested after their long hike by reading to each other and writing in their camp journals.
Thursday:
The day at Marblemount was focused entirely on plants. Campers learned how to tell the difference between deciduous, evergreen, and coniferous trees, and how to use a dichotomous key to identify tree species. After that, they got their hands dirty helping the park staff plant local greenery in an empty plot. Finally, to help cool off during the hot day, campers cleaned the plant pots in what became known as the "mini-waterpark".
